Support for Drug and Alcohol Use

Teens are impressionable. They are at a stage where experimenting is fun. While a parent might think that their teen would never get into alcohol or drug abuse, it is very easy for a teen to get involved. They conceal this behavior from their parents and guardians until they get into trouble. Therefore, it is important for parents to stay vigil and keep an eye on their teen’s behavior.

It is extremely important to arrange intervention and treatment for teens indulging in alcohol and/or drug use or battling a mental disorder because they have a developing brain vulnerable to the effects of drug and alcohol. Substance abuse during teen years is linked to chemical dependency and addiction in adult life.

Addiction to alcohol and drugs can affect the life of a teenager adversely. It can affect their academic performance, cause violent and aggressive behavior, manifest as anger and other behavioral problems and create legal troubles. A teen can get into drunk driving and road rage, leading to DUI (driving under the influence) and accidents. The possibility of self-harm and suicide also escalate when a teen abuses substances and/or alcohol.

At ADEONA Healthcare of Rancho San Diego, we screen each and every teen patient at the time of admission to identify alcohol and substance abuse and determine the underlying reasons for this. We also investigate the presence of co-occurring disorders. Along with medication support, we provide aggressive cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) to restore the neurological damage induced by drug and alcohol use.

Teens receiving treatment at ADEONA Healthcare are encouraged to inculcate healthy lifestyle habits to prevent a relapse. We also understand that families are an integral part of the recovery process of a teen. Therefore, we encourage families to participate in therapies and support their children constantly. This ensures that the family is not only an essential part of recovery of their teen, but also that their relationship with the teen is rebuilt with love and support.
